56 flights from Delhi evacuated 10,600 foreigners

In the first two weeks of the 21-day nationwide lockdown, the Delhi Airport has handled 56 flights abroad to evacuate nearly 10,600 stranded foreigners and helped them in reaching their homes.

Officials at the airport said ever since the commercial flight operations came to a halt at the airport on March 25, special evacuation flights have been operated using the aviation facility by countries like Japan, Norway, Germany, Afghanistan, Poland, Russia, France and a few other smaller countries to repatriate their nationals stranded in India due to the lockdown.

They said besides these special flights, the airport remained functional 24x7 to handle cargo planes ensuring supply of essentials and medical equipment.
