New Delhi, July 28
Six days after he was arrested in the West Bengal School Service Commission recruitment scam, Partha Chatterjee was on Thursday removed from the Cabinet by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and suspended from the party.
All the departments held by Chatterjee have been kept by Mamata. “There will be a Cabinet reshuffle soon,” Mamata said. Chatterjee was the Minister for Industries, Commerce, Entrepreneurship and Parliamentary Affairs.
The TMC also removed Chatterjee from the post of secretary general and national vice-president. Pressure was mounting on Mamata to act against Chatterjee (69) ever since his arrest on July 23. The TMC has been trying to distance itself from Chatterjee since the mindboggling cash seizures from the residences of his aide Arpita Mukherjee. On Wednesday, Rs 28 crore was seized from one of her flats. On July 22, cash and jewellery worth Rs 21.90 crore were seized.
