New Delhi: Two IAF pilots were killed in a MiG-21 fighter jet crash near Barmer in Rajasthan. The twin-seater MiG trainer jet had taken off for a night training sortie. It burst into flames mid-air and crashed to the ground, leaving no time for the pilots to eject.

The IAF has some 70 MiG-21 jets, which are more than 30 years old. The IAF had announced it intended to phase out the fleet by 2025. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: “Deeply anguished by the loss of two air warriors due to an accident. Their service to the nation will never be forgotten.”
