Two Air India SATS (AISATS) staff are among three people arrested by Customs for allegedly smuggling smuggling into the country gold valuing over Rs 72.5 lakh.
The department said a passenger was intercepted by officials on his arrival at IGI Airport from Abu Dhabi on Monday. “During interrogation, he admitted he was carrying two silver-coloured packets of chemical paste containing over 1.48-kg gold, which he hid in the lavatory of the aircraft (he had come in),” said a statement by the department.
An Air India SATS employee was later nabbed by Customs officials while handing over the packets to his colleague.
During investigation, the passenger admitted he had smuggled into the country gold valuing Rs 2.17 crore during his three previous visits.
