An out-and-out family drama, Jug Jugg Jeeyo impresses on various fronts. First, it’s a film you can go and watch with your family. Second, there is a mix of emotion, comedy and some serious discussions on marriage as well as relationships. Like all Karan Johar movies, this Raj Mehta-directorial is a modern tale of a family or what Anil Kapoor’s character, Bheem, in the film would say — ‘progressive’.

The subtle introduction to the characters in the opening scene with the backdrop of school-time love, which turns into a marriage, all packed in one song, will leave you with a smile. The movie captivates from the word go.

More than Varun-Kiara (Kukoo-Naina), it’s the son-dad chemistry of Kukoo and Bheem that is high on entertainment as well as drama. Neetu’s character shines in the second half while Manish Paul really brings is his best humour.

The film talks about the subject of marriage and what it takes to stay married. It also showcases the fact that making a marriage work is not just a woman’s job and Kiara, as Naina, a self-made independent woman, points that out. Only the climax lacks the required drama.

On the music front, Nach Punjaban is peppy. Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake and picturesque fields of Punjab are showcased well. Overall, it’s a modern family drama that highlights problems in urban relationships and guess the cause of it — male ego and patriarchal roots! This is exactly what the film tries to shatter.
