  • On Friday, miscreants looted Rs6 lakh from a branch of Axis Bank at Thathian Mahanta village in Tarn Taran.

After getting information, senior police officers, including Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal, reached the spot. The police suspected that the miscreants involved in the Friday’s incident could be behind the robbery. The SSP said investigation was on to identify the suspects. A case has been registered in this regard. According to information, around five to seven persons came in a white car this afternoon. Before entering the bank, they covered their faces. They held the security guard and other bank employees hostage at gunpoint.

They took away the entire cash kept in a trunk at the counter of the cashier. They also took away money from the bank staff. Before fleeing, they uprooted the digital video recorder of CCTV cameras of the bank.

Punit Kumar, branch manager, told the police that the incident took place around 1 pm. He said before they could understand, the robbers held the security guard hostage at gunpoint. Punit said later, the miscreants pushed the staff members to a corner at gunpoint and took away the entire cash from the trunk.

Ironically, the security guard at the gate of the bank did not have any weapon to thwart the robbery.

“Apparently, the miscreants had done a recce of the bank before committing the crime. They knew that the guard of the bank was not armed and it would be an easy task for them to loot the bank,” said SSP.

The backup of CCTV cameras and digital video recorder of the bank were not linked with its head office.

The same modus operndi was used by the robbers who looted Rs6 lakh from a bank in Thathian Mahanta village in Tarn Taran.
