World Ozone Day celebrated

World Ozone Day was celebrated at the Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

An expert talk was given by Dr Lakhvir Kaur Dhaliwal from the Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

Dhaliwal talked on the topic “Depletion and protection of ozone layer”. She discussed about the different factors responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer. Dhaliwal said that several human activities could be responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer.

She mentioned that in addition to effect on the environment, UV rays are also harmful for the marine life. She discussed about the solution to ozone layer depletion, for example, avoid using ozone depleting substances and minimise the use of vehicles.
