Hailing from Hyderabad, she lived alone at house in BRS Nagar

A 45-year-old woman was found murdered at her rented accommodation in BRS Nagar, I Block, this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Geeta Rani Verma. She was married but her husband lived in Hyderabad.

According to the ACP (West), Sameer Verma, the woman, who hails from Hyderabad, had been living here for the past one year. She ran a books shop in the area to earn her livelihood.

The ACP said the neighbours told the police that they had seen the deceased woman in the locality on Sunday and she was not seen thereafter. This morning, when the maid came to the house, she found the women lying unconscious.

The police found that she was already dead. Her face was covered with polythene which indicated that she was murdered.

A forensic team collected fingerprints from the crime scene.

Verma said preliminary investigation suggested the she was murdered and the police were exploring various angles to crack the case.

Sources said the woman had an affair with a city-based businessman, the reason he had shifted to Ludhiana from Hyderabad.

Sources said the police had been verifying the details of the woman to get some clue about the killer. The role of the person who allegedly had an affair with the woman was also being investigated.

Meanwhile, a medical team dealing with Covid-19 also reached the spot to check if the woman had Covid-19 symptoms. Her sample will be taken for the Covid test.
