Weekend lockdown complete in Ludhiana

Weekend lockdown imposed by the state government was followed in letter and in spirit by the residents of this industrial hub. While most roads wore a deserted look today, only shops dealing in essential services were open.

Police presence was visible on the roads as all police stations had set up nakas in their respective areas. Patrol parties were on roads to ensure that no person roam around without a valid reason.

“Today’s weekend lockdown in Ludhiana is successful. All non-essential shops were closed. We are thankful to the people of Ludhiana for cooperating with the administration by mostly staying home. People should themselves cut down on their non-essential movements during weekdays,” the Ludhiana police shared this message on its official Facebook page and Twitter handle.

It was learnt that the police made announcements through loud speakers in markets to make the shopkeepers aware about the weekend lockdown. The shopkeepers were warned that non-compliance of the lockdown might land them an FIR.

At some places, shops were open in internal streets in the morning hours but the shopkeepers put up shutters before the afternoon.
