Commuters are a harried lot due to the dilapidated condition of the Sherpur main market road and some other roads in Ward No. 22. Residents have been demanding from the MC to ensure timely repair of the roads for a long time but to no avail.

The commuters also face inconvenience due to the poor condition of Oswal Hospital Road in the area. Besides, the residents said a number of internal streets in the ward were also required to be re-carpeted.

Vinod Kumar, a businessman, said: “The main market road opposite Lucky Model School is in a bad condition for the past nearly five years. Even the patchwork is not being carried out to provide temporary relief to visitors. Whenever it rains, water accumulates in deep potholes giving an open invitation to mishaps. We demand from the authorities to take steps to ensure early construction of the main market road and other roads in the ward. The civic body should also ensure proper drainage of rainwater too.”

The residents said the MC officials and the councillor concerned should ensure that the patchwork be carried out to get potholes repaired and re-carpeting of the badly broken roads without any further delay.

Another resident, Davinder Singh of Sherpuri, said: “The main market road is in a poor shape. Besides, the Oswal Hospital road, a stretch under the bridge and several other roads in the ward is in a poor condition for a long time. A number of mishaps have taken place on the broken roads. The ward councillor and MC should take steps to ensure re-carpeting or reconstruction of all broken roads and internal streets in the ward at the earliest.”

Despite repeated attempts, councillor from Ward No. 22 Raju Arora could not be contacted for comments. The SDO, B&R, Harjit Singh, said the construction work of the Oswal Hospital road would be inaugurated within a few days. The main market road would be reconstructed after the completion of a sewerage- related work on the stretch.
