Ludhiana, June 18

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers staged a protest outside the DC office today against the ‘wrong’ policies of the state government. They have sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, seeking his attention towards various issues facing the state.

They have demanded from the state government to waive electricity bills of domestic consumers, traders and industries for the lockdown period due to Covid-19 crisis. They said people of the state should be given relief by waiving off water supply, sewerage charges, property tax and other taxes. They also slammed the government for hiking fee for medical courses.

The protest was led by Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and Jagraon MLA Saravjit Kaur Manuke. She demanded from the government to provide relief to citizens, traders and industrial sector from the hefty electricity bills.

“While the governments across the world are giving concessions and relaxations to their citizens, businessmen and industries amid Covid-19 crisis, the Punjab Government has put extra burden on people by sending hefty electricity bills, instead of providing any relief,” she said.

“Ordinary citizens working in the private sector in the state are facing financial difficulties due to pay cuts while the small traders are facing financial losses. The government should take necessary steps to provide them relief,” she said.

“The government has increased 70 per cent fee for medical courses. The government should roll back the decision, otherwise, we will be forced to stage protests,” she said.
