Virus claims 16 more lives, 196 contract disease in Ludhiana

The virus claimed 16 more lives and 196 fresh Covid cases were reported in the district today.

Those who died, include a 33-year-old man and a 70-year-old man, both from Sector 32-A, on Chandigarh Road, a 66-year-old man from Rani Jhansi Road, a 26-year-old man from Shimlapuri and a 65-year-old man from Jodhan.

Also, a 35-year-old man from Krishna Colony, near Basti Jodhewal, a 74-year-old man from Vikas Nagar on Pakhowal Road, a 66-year-old man from Smadhi Road in Khanna, a 66-year-old man from Malakpur, a 70-year-old man from Latala, a 74-year-old man from New Shakti Nagar, a 65-year-old man from Pavitar Nagar in Haibowal, a 70-year-old man and an 82-year-old man from Ludhiana lost their lives today.

Besides, a 48-year-old woman from Azad Nagar, near Millerganj area, and a 48-year-old woman from Prem Colony, near Basti Jodhewal, died due to Covid-19.

In all, 228 cases, including 196 from Ludhiana district and 32 from other districts or states, were confirmed today. Out of the 196 fresh cases in Ludhiana district, 84 patients had influenza like symptoms and visited flu corner, 15 came in contact of positive patients and 45 cases were reported at the OPD. According to the Health Department, 13 health workers and a pregnant woman tested positive for the disease.

Two patients, who had severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), tested positive for the virus.

As many as 1,25,120 samples have been collected for Covid-19 test in the district till date. Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said, “As many as 10,632 confirmed Covid-19 cases have been reported in Ludhiana district and 8,608 (80.96%) patients have recovered.”

Twenty deaths, including 16 from Ludhiana, one each from Kapurthala, Faridkot, Ferozepur and Jammu were confirmed today, Dr Bagga added. As many as 442 patients from Ludhiana district had died till date after declaration of the epidemic. Currently, 37 patients are on ventilator in the district. Samples of 3,704 persons, including 962 for the RTPCR, 2,732 for rapid antigen test and 10 for TrueNat test were collected today.
