Virus claims 13 more lives in Ludhiana

As many as 263 contract disease in the district

Covid-19 claimed life of 13 more persons in the district taking the toll to 535 today. Besides, 263 fresh cases of coronavirus were reported in the district today.

Those, who died due to virus infection, include a 45- year-old from Sahnewal, a 59-year-old from Vishwakarma Colony, a 49-year-old from Jawahar Camp, a 79-year-old from Dhandari Kalan, a 42-year-old from Tibba Road, a 48-year-old from Rahon Road, a 67-year-old from Omaxe Ludhiana, a 75-year-old from Old Madhopuri, a 57-year-old from Partap Chowk, a 70-year-old from Salem Tabri, a 78-year-old from Kitchlu Nagar, a 67-year-old from Durgapuri and a 55-year-old from Dhandra Road.

Free testing at Kartar Nagar

A free camp for Covid-19 tests will be organised at Kartar Nagar, Model Town Extension, at 10 am on September 11. The camp is being organised by Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Sewa Society with support of Red Cross Society secretary Balbir Chand. Taranjit Singh Nimana of Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Sewa Society said the camp was being organised on directions of the Ludhiana DC. He appealed to people to come forward for getting their tests done. Persons found positive during the camp would be home-isolated and seriously ill would be referred to the Ludhiana Civil Hospital, said Balbir Chand. “The administration will provide free treatment to patients, who test positive for the disease during the camp,” he added.

Out of 263 positive cases reported today, 36 persons came in contact of positive patients while 82 visited OPDs. In all, 80 patients having influenza like illness visited the flu corner. Besides, 11 health workers, a policeman, an undertrial and a pregnant woman tested positive for the virus. Two patients were suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI).

The Ludhiana Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said samples of 1,74,319 persons suspected of suffering from the disease were collected from the district till date. Out of them, 12,565 were confirmed positive cases while 10,208 (81.24%) patients had recovered so far.

Fifteen persons, including 13 patients from Ludhiana district and one each from Ferozepur and Pathankot, died due to virus here today. As many as 535 patients in the district had lost their lives to Covid-19 till date.
