Village heads roped in to spread awareness on Covid

Ludhiana, June 17

Under the ‘Mission Fateh’ of the Punjab Government, the Rural Development & Panchayats Department today sent sarpanches and panches door to door to spread awareness about Covid-19 amongst the masses in different villages of Ludhiana district.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma said: “The sarpanches, panches and Guardians of Governance (GOGs) made people aware about Covid-19 in their respective villages.” He said the residents were educated about wearing masks whenever they step out of their houses, maintain social distancing and wash hands after short intervals.

The sarpanches and panches visited houses and educated masses in the presence of panchayats and Anganwari workers. They said: “Everyone needs to get aware regarding Covid-19 if they want to stay safe.”

DDPO Peeyush Chander said, the sarpanches, panches and GOGs visited 875 villages in Ludhiana district to spread awareness. On the occasion, they also educated the MGNREGA workers that they should maintain at least 6-feet distance between each other at their workplace and should always wear masks, should not share their utensils with others and should not consume tobacco.

He said earlier also, the panchayats had played an important role in keeping their respective villages safe by holding checkpoints at the entry and exit of their villages. He said the BDPOs played an important role in today’s drive. They also appealed to the panchayats that whenever any outsider entered their village, they should intimate the block office and the Health Department immediately.

Special camp today

A special awareness campaign in the district would also be held on June 18. Such awareness activities by district NGOs will be carried out on June 19 in their respective areas by affixing badges. The district police has fixed June 20 as the day to warn people against Covid by affixing badges, while the city councils would conduct awareness campaign on June 21 through resident welfare committees, etc.
