Ludhiana, January 13

The police have arrested two persons, Raj Kumar and Dhian Singh, both residents of Dev Colony, under various sections of the IPC who were believed to be involved in several cases of stealing electric motors, sanitary fittings and scrap.

The duo was held from Thakkarval village while coming on a Bajaj Passion motorcycle (bearing registration number PB 10BH 1648). During a probe, the police have recovered 27 kg of copper wire, 23 sewerage manhole covers and scrap of iron and steel rods and strips.

The motorcycle that the accused were driving had also been impounded.

In another incident, thieves stole nearly five metric tonnes of iron rods (saria) from an under-construction cycle chain factory at Umaidpur village on the night of January 11. Owner of the factory Karamjit Singh lodged a report with the police saying that he found the material missing when he visited his factory on Wednesday morning. The police have registered a case under Sections 379 and 457, IPC. Two more factories were burgled on the intervening night of January 11 and 12 from where thieves took away cash, equipment, important documents and other material.

Ashwani Goel, a resident of Green Park, lodged a complaint with the police that miscreants broke into his factory on the main road in Chander Nagar on the night of January 11 and took away cash, his passport and other important documents kept in a locked steel almirah. The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380, IPC. A theft of equipment was reported from a factory in Focal Point, Phase VIII, in Jeet Colony by its owner Nikhil Jain, a resident of GTB Nagar, . He said in his complaint to the police that his factory was lying closed for the past three-four days.

“When I went to factory on Wednesday, I noticed that raw material, 13 empty industrial gas cylinders, one hand welding set, three oil starters, some machinery parts and two discs were missing,” he said. A case has been registered and investigation was on. — OC
