Two smugglers held with heroin

Ludhiana: A team of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Punjab Police, led by Inspector Harbans Singh, nabbed a drug runner, identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jass, resident of Alamgir Enclave, under the Dehlon police station, from near Dana Mandi on Gill Road when he was going to deliver drugs to his customers. On his search, 850 gm of heroin, electronic balance and 60 plastic pouches used for packing the contraband were seized. Jaspreet Singh said during preliminary interrogation that the heroin was given to him by his friend and accomplice Harjot Singh, alias Jot, resident of Khatra Chuharam village, under the Dehlon police station. The police have booked both under Sections 21, 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act and teams were sent to apprehend the other accused, Harjot Singh. Jaspreet Singh told the police that he had already been facing a case under the NDPS Act and had come out on bail only a few months back. Another drug trafficker, identified as Rakesh Kumar, resident of Manohar Nagar was arrested from near the Dhuri Line railway crossing on Sunday. Rakesh was coming on foot when he was stopped on suspicion and his search led to the recovery of 25 gm of heroin. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered. OC

Roadways bus driver thrashed

Ludhiana: In a scuffle that took place between drivers and accompanying staff of two buses on the issue of overtaking on GT Road near Hardy’s World, Mukhtiar Singh, resident of Tara Singh village in Amritsar district and driver of Punjab Roadways (PUNBUS) bus (PB-02DO-2563), was thrashed by four unidentified persons allegedly accompanying a bus of Indo-Canadian Transport (PB-01C-9724). In a complaint to the police, PUNBUS driver Malkiat Singh said the bus of the Indo-Canadian Transport and Rajdhani Transport had stopped ahead of his bus on the flyover. “When I tried to overtake these two buses, the driver of the Indo-Canadian Transport bus and his accomplices stopped my bus and started abusing. Four unidentified persons manhandled me, tore my uniform and also obstructed traffic on the highway,” he said. The police have registered a case under Sections 186, 353 and 34 of the IPC. OC
