Two nabbed in Ludhiana for smuggling liquor

The police arrested two liquor smugglers and charged another person, who managed to give the police party the slip, under relevant sections of the Excise Act on Sunday.

In a raid conducted at Phullanwal village by a team of the anti-narcotics cell of the police, one person identified as Yogesh Kumar, a resident of PUDA quarters, Phase III, was nabbed and 24 bottles of Dollar XXX rum were seized from him. Another liquor smuggler, Rajesh Goel, of Jamalpur Colony was held while selling liquor at his grocery shop. Search of the shop led to the recovery of 10 bottles of countrymade liquor.

In another raid conducted at a general store in Mohalla Peeru Banda, the owner of the shop, Gora, of Jassian village, managed to escape on seeing the police. Thirtytsix bottles of Punjab Dollar liquor. — OC
