Doraha, September 9

The Doraha police have arrested two persons with two .32-bore countrymade pistols. They were travelling from Delhi and were passing through Doraha to reach their hometown Ferozepur yesterday. Both have been taken into two-day police remand.

The accused have been identified as Gurwant Singh, a native of Mastewala in Makkhu, and Gurlabh Singh of Chabba in Jeera. The police arrested the two near Beant Singh Chowk of Doraha after a tip-off. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against them.

Doraha SHO Nachattar Singh said the duo was engaged in the business of purchasing illegal weapons from outer states and selling them to people of Punjab. “We expect major disclosures from the two during interrogation,” he added.

Khanna SSP Gursharandeep Singh Grewal said the Khanna police has started a special campaign against drug trafficking and misdemeanors. During this campaign, the Doraha police had achieved major success, nabbing criminals involved in the sale and supply of drugs or illegal weapons.
