Two arrested for smuggling liquor

The police have arrested two liquor smugglers and two drug peddlers in separate incidents.

Gurpreet Singh Suppal, a resident of Moti Bagh Colony, was arrested from Phullanwal village while selling liquor illegally. The suspect has been booked under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act and the police have recovered 13 bottles of country liquor from his possession.

In another raid in the same village, Jaswant Singh was nabbed while selling liquor near the cremation ground. Search of the suspect led to the recovery of 13 bottles of country iiquor. Meanwhile, the Ladhowal police have arrested a man, Surinder Singh, a resident of Humbran, with 13 gm of heroin. The suspect has been booked under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Another drug peddler, Jagjiwan Singh, a resident of Bhaini Sahib village, was nabbed by the Koom Kalan police on the road from Katani Kalan to Bhaini Sahib. The suspect managed to flee the spot but was overpowered. His search led to the seizure of 6.5 kg of poppy husk. — TNS
