Travelers suffer in cold, 9 trains cancelled

With dense blanket of fog engulfing the region, rail traffic continued to be erratic adding to misery of the passengers who were left to fend for themselves due to cancellation of nine trains or else were made to wait for hours for the trains running behind schedule.

It was stated by the Northern Railway authorities that in all nine trains were cancelled for the day. These included 13151/52 Kolkat-Jammu Tawi-Kolkata Sealdah Express, 14617/18 Banmankhi-Amritsar-Banmankhi Jansewa Express, 14631/32 Dehradun-Amritsar-Dehradun Express, 14674 Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express,15212 Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express and 19614 Amritsar-Ajmer Express.

While some 15 long-route trains were running behind from one to more than six hours, it turned out to be a particularly tough day for travellers on the Amritsar-Ludhiana-New Delhi section as 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express was delayed by over 3.30 hours while 12029 New Delhi-Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi Express and 12497 New Delhi-Amritsar Shane-Punjab Express trains were running late by 30 minutes and 1.10 hours respectively.

Due to operational constraints, five trains, 12716 Amritsar-Nanded Sachkahnd Express (6.45 hrs), 22706 Jammu Tawi-Tirupati Humsafar Express (5.30 hrs), 18216 Jammu Tawi-Durg Express (4.30 hrs), 14611 Ghazipur City-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express (3 hrs) and 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express (2.30 hrs) were rescheduled for late departure.
