Three of ATM fraud gang nabbed

The Daba police today claimed to have busted a gang of ATM fraudsters and arrested three of its members. The gang used to exchange ATM cards with gullible persons and then withdraw cash.

The accused have been identified as Tarun Sharma (23) of Surjit Nagar, Shubham Singh (23) of Hargovind Nagar and Pankaj Kumar (27) of Hargobind Nagar. One of the gang members, Gurdev Singh of Giaspura, is yet to be arrested.

Additional DCP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja addressed a press conference regarding the matter.

ADCP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said the police recovered 72 ATM cards from the gang which they had fraudulently exchanged with innocent persons on the pretext of helping them at ATM kiosks.

The gang used to roam around the ATM kiosks and whenever someone enters the kiosk to withdraw money, gang members use to enter along. If any person faces problem in withdrawing cash the accused offer help. On the pretext of helping a person, the accused note down the ATM card password and after withdrawing cash, gang members use to exchange the card. Later, they use the same ATM card to withdraw money.

The ADCP said the gang members had withdrawn lakhs of rupees in the past over one year and probe was on to recover the money.
