Three held for defying curfew

Ludhiana, March 30

The police have arrested three persons for violating the curfew orders.

Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Ward No. 5, near the Bhatti Road railway tracks in Shanti Nagar, Sirhind, for ferrying passengers in a commercial vehicle near Sherpur Chowk in violation of the curfew orders. The police said on being questioned, he failed to produce any driving licence or permit for ferrying passengers on his vehicle. A case under sections 188 of the IPC and sections 3/192-A of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered by the police.

In two other instances, the police arrested Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Model Gram locality, under section 188 for the violation of prohibitory orders. The police said he was running a sweets shop in Lakkar Bazaar and had opened the shop for preparation of sweets during curfew.

Bablu Thakur, a resident of Sant Vihar in Kailash Nagar, was arrested for running his barber shop in violation of the prohibitory orders.

Many booked for bid to get man freed from custody

A police patrol team from the Haibowal police station, led by SI Sukhwinder Singh, had to face some difficult moments yesterday while they were taking into custody Ishant Anand, a resident of Hakikat Nagar in Haibowal, for standing in the street near his house in violation of the curfew orders.

The police said while Ishant was being questioned for the reason of roaming outside, local residents gathered around the police party and tried to get Ishant released from police custody.

According to the police, a case under sections 353 (Use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (causing obstruction in performance of duty by a public servant), 188 (violation of prohibitory orders), 269/70 (spread of infection of any disease and disobeying quarantine rules) of the IPC have been registered against Ishant and other unidentified persons.
