Three commit suicide in Ludhiana

Three suicide cases have been reported in the city. While in two of the cases, extra-marital affair was the reason for extreme step by the victims, the third victim killed self due to a matrimonial dispute. The police have registered abetment-to-suicide cases.

First case was reported at Dehlon where Ramandeep Kaur allegedly committed suicide due to harassment at the hands of her sister-in-law over petty issues. The police have registered an abetment-to-suicide case against Neha of Ghwaddi village.

Kulwant Kaur of Barnala told the police that her daughter, Ramandeep, got married to Jagdeep Singh about five years ago. Jagdeep has been living in Dubai for the past six months. Jagdeep’s brother Avtar, who lives in Canada, is married to Neha.

The complainant said Neha scuffled with her daughter over petty issues. On Thursday, when Neha scuffled with Ramandeep, her daughter committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan, she said.

Sumit Thaman allegedly committed suicide at New Chandar Nagar, Haibowal, due to extra-marital affair of his wife. The complainant, Ankush Thaman, deceased’s brother, told the police that his brother was depressed due to the affair of his wife. On Thursday, his brother committed suicide in the store room.

In yet another case, Tarsem Singh (22) of Tharike village allegedly immolated himself after he was thrashed by the kin of the woman with whom he was living.

The complainant, Shamsher Singh told the police that his son had been living with Cheenu for the past few months. On September 12, he came to know that his son was admitted to the ESI hospital. His son told him that he was thrashed by Cheenu’s kin after which he doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire. He succumbed at the PGI on Thursday.

Assistant Sub-inspector Dharamvir Singh said Cheenu and one unknown person had been booked.
