Thief caught lifting scrap

Ludhiana: Akash Kumar, a resident of the Sua road, was caught while lifting 20-kg scrap kept in a gunny bag outside a factory, Sri Ram Forging, in Giaspura. The suspect fell while trying to escape with stolen material on his motorcycle. Factory workers overpowered the suspect and handed him over to the police. A case under Section 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered on a complaint lodged by factory owner Deepak Sharma, a resident of Lachman Nagar, Giaspura. TNS

Household items, Purse stolen

Ludhiana: Thieves broke into a house in Kidwai Nagar here on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place when the lone occupant, Sawinder Kaur, had gone to a nearby gurdwara to pay obeisance. In her complaint, Sawinder said when she returned home, she found the door broken and house ransacked. She said the thieves took away a microwave oven, an LCD, a mobile phone and a purse containing Rs 9,400. The police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC.
