Mandi Ahmedgarh, Sept 15

Guardians of Governance (GOGs), lambardars and revenue officials have volunteered to be members of the civil response teams constituted to persuade residents to come forward to give nasopharyngeal swab samples for Covid testing.

The gesture followed a call made by the administration, led by Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Ramvir and SDM Vikramjit Singh Panthey, during a campaign commenced under the Mission Fateh by the state government.

Subdivision head (GOGs) Major Bahadur Singh said 65 residents of Ballewal village had come forward to give samples after being persuaded by the volunteers.

Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla SDM Vikramjit Singh Panthey said civil response teams had been constituted to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of transmission of Covid by asymptomatic patients. “Having received instructions from Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ramvir to increase sampling from rural and suburban localities, we constituted the civil response teams by roping in GOGs, revenue officials, lambardars and members of civic bodies. These teams have started visiting designated localities to update residents about the significance of Covid testing,” said Pathey.

Panthey appealed to residents to be aware of rumour-mongers.
