With an aim to keeping polio under control, a special drive to administer polio drops to children aged 0-5 years will be carried out in the district from November 1, under the Pulse Polio campaign.
Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga said during the special drive all children in high-risk areas, including slums, huts, kilns and areas under construction in Ludhiana district, would be covered.
Dr Bagga appealed to the public to take all precautions in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic while administering polio drops to their children.
He said 845 teams, 194 supervisors and 68 mobile teams had been deployed to make the campaign successful and under the drive, 4,08,181 houses would be covered, with a target to administer polio drops to 1,50,891 children.
District Immunisation Officer Puneet Juneja, who is also the nodal officer for the programme, said there were a total of 952 areas in the district which had been declared as high-risk areas. The teams would go door-to-door to administer polio drops to children and the programme would be continued till all children in the high-risk areas would be covered.
