Sweet shop owner booked for ‘murder’ of milk vendor

Suspecting foul play in the death of a milk vendor, Baljit Singh, resident of Khanpur village, who had died at Sidhu Hospital in Doraha on September 27, the police have booked sweet shop owner Uma Dutt, resident of Janta Nagar, here under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In a statement to the police, Sukhwinder Singh, a friend of the deceased milk vendor, said Baljit had gone to the city on September 25 to collect his dues from Uma Dutt to whom he used to supply milk. He said the Baljit on his return had told him that Uma Dutt had not paid the money but offered him “chana-bhaturas”, which he had eaten.

According to Sukhwinder Singh, the health of Baljit Singhstarted deteriorating on the same day and he was admitted to the hospital in Doraha, where he succumbed two days later. He suspected that the sweet shop owner might have mixed poison in the eatables offered to Baljit, which led to his death.

The police are investigating the matter.
