Ludhiana, February 17

The STF (Special Task Force) of Ludhiana Range arrested police head constable (now under suspension) Balbir Singh when he was looking for his customers to sell heroin at the office of Sub-Registrar East in Transport Nagar. On his search, 20 gram of heroin was recovered from him.

Inspector Harbans Singh said a raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off that the head constable, a resident of Shivam Colony, Sangrur, and posted at Ludhiana Commissionerate, himself an addict, was involved in drug trafficking. The accused, booked under sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act, told the police that he, along with an accomplice Jagatjit Singh, was arrested by the Sarabha Nagar police under sections 384/34 of the IPC for extorting money from a chemist at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. He had served one-month in jail and had recently been released on bail.

The STF nabbed two brothers Pardeep Singh (21) and Jasveer Singh (18), both residents of Ammiwal village in Dharamkot tehsil (Moga), on the charge of drug trafficking. Both brothers, riding a motorcycle, were going to supply heroin. The police recovered 582 gram of heroin from the motorcycle. The suspects told the police that they had purchased the contraband from Shahkot village for selling at a premium in and around Ludhiana.
