Soon, app for LED street light complaints in city

Residents of the city will soon be able to effortlessly register complaints pertaining to non-functional street lights as the smart LED project citizen's portal and an Android app is soon to be launched for the purpose. "The app, Smart Street Light Complaints, will be soon available on Google Play Store in the next few days," said Rajendra Inani, Business unit head of Smart Cities, Tata Projects Ltd.

While addressing a press conference in Ludhiana today, Inani said: "The citizen's portal and app shall be put up on Google Play Store. All complaints received will be resolved through dedicated maintenance teams and thereafter monitored for future performance. Ludhiana will be among the first cities where citizens of India can seamlessly login complaints pertaining to street lights. Additionally, the citizens will also be able to check action taken on their complaints."

"LED lights are installed by Tata Projects Ltd in lieu of rights for sharing energy savings on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode on a design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer (DBFOMT) basis," he said.

"The Ludhiana Smart LED project has already achieved Rs 1.65 crore monthly savings for city and its residents. This can be estimated if one considers the 63 per cent reduction on earlier monthly electricity bills of Rs 2.62 crore borne by the LMC during usage of conventional street lights," he claimed.

The company is supposed to install LED lights at around 1.05 lakh points in the city. "We have installed LED lights at 76,000 points while remaining points will be covered soon. The project would be completed by March 2020," he said.

Notably, the company has missed the deadline and a Congress councillor had earlier written to the authorities concerned to take action against the company for delaying the project.
