Ludhiana, December 15

The police claimed to have solved the murder of a woman at Meharban with the arrest of her son. They claimed that the 15-year-old son killed his mother after she refused to give him money to buy liquor and beer.

The deceased, Savitri Devi (60), was a native of Jharkhand and worked here as labourer.

The ACP East, Davinder Chaudhary, said on the night of December 13, Savitri, along with her husband Emal Munda and son consumed liquor.

“When Savitri’s son asked her for more money to buy liquor for him and his friends, she refused. Arguments between the woman and her son ensued. Her husband, who was in an inebriate state, was also present there. The boy brought a heavy utensil and a wooden stick, and hit his mother on the head,” said the ACP.

The woman died but her drunk husband was not in a state to give a statement. The next morning, he told the police that his son had killed his wife. The boy was arrested.

Since the accused was a minor, he was produced before the juvenile court that sent him to the juvenile home.
