Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu inaugurated a solar rooftop power plant at SCD Government College, Ludhiana, as part of the centenary celebrations of the college. Social distancing was followed during the ceremony. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Principal Dharam Singh Sandhu said the 150 KW plant was constructed at a cost of Rs75 lakh. It will provide 600 units of electricity daily, he added.
The plant has been constructed under the Smart City Project. “The new solar power plant will bring us great relief in cutting down our electricity bills besides making the campus still more eco-friendly,” said Dr Sandhu. He also informed that the college already has successfully functioning solar-powered lights.
