Snatcher nabbed from mall

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a mobile phone snatcher, identified as Ramandeep Kumar, a resident of Sunet village, from MBD Mall and charged him under Sections 379-B, 454, 457 and 380 of the IPC. Three mobile phones of various brands and the motorcycle he used in the crime were recovered from him. OC

Woman missing, kin cry foul

Ludhiana: Simranpreet Kaur (22) of Baba Budha Ji Nagar was reported missing in mysterious circumstances after she left home for a boutique on August 21. Her father Pritpal Singh said his daughter got engaged to Arshdeep Singh of Basant City on August 5. He refused to marry his daughter to Arshdeep when he came to know that he did not have a good reputation. "Since Inderdeep Kaur, mother of the prospective groom, had threatened to have my daughter kidnapped if she was not married to Arshdeep, we suspect that the boy's family might be behind the abduction of the girl," said Pritpal Singh. The police have registered a case under Sections 346 of the IPC and started investigation. OC

Man held for illegal mining

Ludhiana: The police have arrested Gurpreet Singh of Noorwal village under section 379 of the IPC and Section 21 of the Mining Act. According to the police, he was nabbed with a tractor-trailer laden with illegally mined sand near Laddoo Colony. The vehicle has been impounded. OC

Lockdown: One held for violation

Ludhiana: The police have arrested Thakur Singh of Urban Estate, Dugri, and charged him under section 188 of the IPC for keeping open his eatery, Chawla Chicken, at Aarti Chowk, beyond the stipulated time for closure. In a similar case, the owner of another eating joint, Snakkers, at Maharishi Valmiki Nagar Market was also booked for the running business beyond the stipulated closure timing. OC
