Smuggler runs drug network from Ludhiana jail, three aides arrested

The Dugri police have arrested three persons who were running a drug network on the directions of a jailed smuggler. A case under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered today.

The arrested persons have been identified as Gurdeep Singh of Dugri, Amandeep Singh of Himayupura village and Sahil Dhawan of the Dhandra road. There two accomplices Ajay Kumar and Gurmeet Singh are yet to be arrested.

The police recovered 30 gram of heroin, .32-bore pistol and three cartridges from the accused.

Surinder Chopra, SHO, Dugri police station, in a statement said Gurmeet Singh of Dugri is presently lodged in Central Jail, Ludhiana, and he runs a drug network from the jail.

“Gurmeet had connection with big drug suppliers. On his directions from the jail, Ajay Kumar goes to buy heroin, which he hands over to other accused for further supply in the market.

The SHO said the police would bring Gurmeet on production warrant from jail to bust the entire drug network.
