Sept sets record with 59 lakh jabs in Punjab

District covers 93 per cent eligible population with 32.65 lakh shots

Setting a new record, a whopping 59 lakh beneficiaries were vaccinated against Covid in the state last month, which accounts for almost two lakh daily jabs, the government has confirmed.

Beating the monthly coverage achieved so far, September logged the highest-ever 58,69,413 shots — 41,00,160 first doses and 17,69,253 second doses — to the persons aged above 18, the official figures have revealed.

This was the highest count since the vaccination took off in January.

The last month’s vaccination figure was 18,14,206 more than August’s 40,55,207 doses, which accounts for 44.74 per cent increase.

Ludhiana has been leading the state with the maximum administration of 32,65,209 jabs till October 14. This was almost 93 per cent coverage of the eligible beneficiaries with at least a single dose in the district. While over 23 lakh people have taken a single shot, over 9 lakh recipients have got both the jabs so far.

The month-wise vaccination coverage, compiled by the Health and Family Welfare Department, a copy of which is available with The Tribune, revealed that as many as 53 lakh doses of Covishield and 5,69,413 shots of Covaxin were given in the state during September, which were 17,06,263 more than 41,63,150 doses allocated by the Centre for Punjab.

However, the state received 45,25,610 shots in September, which included 38,49,690 doses of Covishield and 6,75,920 jabs of Covaxin.

Even after administering the maximum doses, the state was left with 2,61,860 doses of Covishield and 2,18,895 shots of Covaxin at the end of last month.

Earlier, the state administered 55,461 doses of Covishield and only 37 Covaxin in January, 1,44,984 Covishield and 388 Covaxin in February, 7,91,570 Covishield 77,057 Covaxin in March, 23,14,688 Covishield 2,32,924 Covaxin in April, 12,73,475 Covishield 1,45,236 Covaxin in May, 15,63,523 Covishield 3,63,712 Covaxin in June, 21,58,933 Covishield 3,89,080 Covaxin in July, and 36,10,009 doses of Covishield and 4,45,198 shots of Covaxin during August.

With this, the state administered a total of 2,10,71,309 doses till October 14, which included 1,53,84,420 first and 56,86,889 second jabs.

The age-wise percentage of population vaccinated in the state so far included 91 per cent persons aged 60 and above with first dose and 45 per cent with second dose, 77 per cent aged 45 and above with first and 33 per cent with second jab, 57 per cent aged 18 and above with first and 10 per cent with second shot.

The overall coverage comprised 74.48 per cent with first dose and 27.53 per cent with second jab till October 14.
