School students pledge to follow traffic rules

On the fourth day of Road Safety Week, the Ludhiana traffic police organised an awareness rally at Punjab Agricultural University here today. Students of various schools, who took part in the rally, pledged to follow traffic rules and motivate others to follow road safety standards.

The rally was chaired by Cabinet Minister BB Ashu, Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal, DCP (Traffic) SS Brar, ACPs (Traffic) Gurdev Singh, Rajan Sharma, ACP Sameer Verma and other police officials. Punjabi actors Jaswinder Bhalla, Nirmal Rishi and some other prominent personalities of Punjab too joined the rally.

While speaking on the occasion, Ashu said concerted efforts were needed to make the industrial hub free from traffic chaos. He had already asked all his councillors to come forward and provide volunteers to the traffic police to manage traffic ward-wise. Ashu advocated for self-imposed discipline as traffic congestion had increased in the city due to the ongoing development works.

Ashu praised traffic expert Rahul Verma, social activist Sacha Yadav and Kumar Gaurav for cooperating with the traffic police in awareness programmes.

The Police Commissioner said the traffic police alone could not control traffic or make road safety sense prevail in the city. Participation of residents was also must. “If people start following traffic rules and pay heed to road safety aspects, then there will not be any traffic chaos. It will also curtail road mishaps,” he said.

Punjabi actor Bhalla and Nirmal also taught traffic lessons to students in a comic way. The duo urged the students to avoid driving at high speed.
