Ludhiana, April 8

Safai karamcharis of the Municipal Corporation (MC) have opposed duty at isolation centres and quarantine buildings where suspected and confirmed Covid-19 infected patients have been lodged. Safai workers also demanded that they should not be deployed for the cremation of persons, who died due to virus infection.

Members of the Bhartiya Valmiki Dharam Samaj (BHAVADAS - Bharat) met Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal today in this regard. They demanded that safai workers should not be deployed at centres for cleaning and lifting garbage. They also opposed lifting garbage from houses of suspected and confirmed virus-infected patients.

Chief director of the union, Ashwani Sahota, said, “There is a risk to lives of safai karamcharis if they are deployed at isolation centres for infected or suspected patients or to perform duty for the cremation of any person who dies due to virus. We have requested the DC to deploy trained staff of the Health Department at isolation and quarantined centres.”
