Ludhiana: In a hit-and-run case, a youth, Chandan Kumar (22), was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the PGI, Chandigarh, during treatment on September 11. In a complaint lodged with the police, Amit Kumar, brother of the deceased, said Chandan was going on his motorcycle (bearing registration no. PB 10HM 9134) on September 9 when a speeding vehicle hit his motorcycle from the rear side on GT Road near a showroom. The police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC against the unknown driver on Sunday. OC

Two held with illicit liquor

Ludhiana: The police have arrested two liquor smugglers in two raids conducted in different parts of the city. Amandeep Singh, a resident of Kwality Road, Shimlapuri, was arrested and 84 bottles of smuggled liquor (Dollar Punjab 60 bottles and Aristocrat Premium 24 bottles) were seized from his possession. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against him. A grocer, Rajesh Goyal, who is allegedly involved in liquor smuggling, was arrested from Sherpur Khurd and 12 bottles of All Season whisky were recovered from his shop. He has been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. OC

Heroin seized from undertrials

Ludhiana: Two undertrials in Central Jail, identified as Gagandeep Singh and Jatinder Kumar, were found possessing 0.35 gm of heroin during a surprise checking in the barracks. On the complaint received from Suraj Mal, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, the police have booked the duo under Sections 21-A, 29, 67 and 85 of the NDPS Act. OC
