Ludhiana, August 20

Irked over the dilapidated condition of roads in the Giaspura area, an advocate along with some residents today staged a protest outside the office of Ludhiana (South) MLA Balwinder Singh Bains. They alleged that the MLA was not paying attention towards the problems being faced by the residents.

Advocate Ravinder Singh Rawat said, “Even basic amenities are not being provided to the people in the area. All the three major roads here are in a dilapidated condition for the past 4-5 years but the authorities concerned have failed to take any step in this regard.”

“A major park in the area is in shambles. To raise voice over the absence of basic amenities, we staged a protest in a democratic and peaceful way today. We want to know that what steps have been taken to ensure repair of the roads in the past three years since Bains was elected as an MLA. We want an early redressal of our issues,” he said.

It is also required to mention that the sewers commonly overflow in different parts of Giaspura. The MLA later assured the protestors that required steps will be taken to ensure repair of the roads.

When contacted, MLA Balwinder Singh Bains said the work of one road has already been allotted. “The road was earlier dug up to install a new sewerage lane. The work has been allotted to a private firm but it got delayed due to the ongoing rainy season. The repair of other two roads will also be ensured at the earliest,” he said.

Bains also blamed the state government for the poor condition of roads in the city as well as in the other parts of the state. He said, “Mafias are active in the state but the government has no funds for the development works.”
