Residents patrol with cops to prevent crime incidents

Ludhiana, November 19

An initiative has been taken to reach out to residents in areas which are more vulnerable to incidents of snatching, especially after dark. The residents and business persons have joined hands to tackle the rising incidents of loot and snatching in their respective areas.

For better coordination, the police have created a WhatsApp group involving area residents and businessmen for sharing information and location of the patrolling party.

Besides the residents and workers of factories and other business units have also provided volunteers to the patrolling parties for more effective and broader surveillance and prevention of crime.

The initiative has been taken by ADCP-1 Deepak Pareek in his police zone.

“This is an exercise in community partnership proactive policing and crime prevention. Police officers have also conducted a meeting with local factory owners in which dark spots have been identified jointly and same are being covered by installing LED floodlights. We are also installing CCTV cameras at dark spots (areas vulnerable to snatching) to keep a tab over anti-social elements, “the ADCP told The Tribune.

Pareek said the installation of the CCTV cameras at dark spots would not only serve as a deterrent to criminals but also help in investigation.

WhatsApp group created

ADCP-1 Deepak Pareek said a special WhatsApp group had been created for the purpose in which some industrialists and residents had been added. It will help the police in getting quick information about suspicious activities in the area and photographs of suspicious persons can also be shared in the group. ”People can share information about any suspicious person and after verifying it, the police can keep a tab over anti-social elements. At present, the initiative is taken for the Bahadarke road and Nagesh Hosiery, and gradually, it will be expanded into other vulnerable areas,” the ADCP said. — TNS
