Register pet or pay 10 times penalty in Ludhiana

A large number of residents have yet to apply for getting their pet dogs or cats registered with the Municipal Corporation (MC), Ludhiana. Earlier, the online registration process for the same was initiated in June this year by the civic body.

According to information, only 256 dogs have been registered and no cat has been registered with the MC till October 26. The deadline for same is December 31, 2020, and after that 10 times penalty will be imposed on owners of all unregistered pet dogs and cats.

MC’s senior veterinary officer Harbans Singh Dhalla said of the 256 registered dogs, only 188 pet owners have collected the brass tokens from the MC while rest of the pet owners are yet to collect the same. “The owners are requested to take the tokens from Zone A office at the earliest as these are compulsory to put in the neck collar of the registered dogs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu has appealed to the pet owners in the city to get their dogs and cats registered. They can visit the MC’s official website — mcludhiana.gov.in or pets.mcludhiana.gov.in to register online.

Sandhu said the owners could also apply for pet registration at all zones of the MC by paying Rs 400 annual fee.

“A copy of the Aadhaar card is required for the registration. A brass token will be issued for the registered pet. It can be obtained from room number 37 of the MC’s Zone A office on any working day after showing a receipt or a picture of registration,” he said.

Sandhu asked them to put the token in the neck collar of their pets so that in case of theft or loss of the animals, one could identify the dog owner from the token number.

He also asked the owners to put muzzle on the mouth of dogs and chain the dogs while moving out of house.

“Owners will be responsible for all action of dog bites to others. They should not allow the pets to defecate in any public place and would be responsible for cleaning the area,” he said.

A number of people often leave their pets in streets to defecate. Residents have demanded from the MC to keep check on such violations.
