Punjab boys, girls emerge winners in netball event

Hosts Punjab scripted victories in the first round matches of the boys and girls sections in netball in the 65th National School Games being held at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Punjab Agricultural University campus here today.

In the boys’ section, Punjab outperformed Chhattisgarh 22-8 and in the girls’ group, Punjab outclassed Tamil Nadu to advance into the next round. Competition in netball, wushu and sepak takraw is being organised in Ludhiana whereas kick-boxing matches have been shifted to Sangrur.

In the boys U-19 (netball) matches, Maharashtra beat Uttar Pradesh 47-0; Kerala beat CBSE 36-18 and Haryana defeated Andhra Pradesh 25-5; Haryana thrashed Andhra Pradesh 14-6.

Likewise, in the girls’ section (U-19), Karnataka outplayed Maharashtra 24-21; Delhi overpowered Vidya Bharti 34-1; Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) piped Telangana 9-8; Haryana got the better of Andhra Pradesh; Chandigarh beat CBSE; Kerala defeated Jammu and Kashmir.

The cold conditions in this part of the country forced many to stay indoors whereas players, particularly those from southern states, who are here to participate in the ongoing National School Games were seen battling with cold.
