Punjab Agricultural University live programme for farmers held in Ludhiana

The PAU live programme began on Wednesday with an appeal to farmers not to burn paddy straw and manage it by using straw management technologies. A documentary highlighting the ill-effects of stubble burning and urging to use straw management techniques was also shown during the programme.

Dr Kiran Grover, senior extension specialist, food and nutrition, and Dr Sukhdeep Kaur, a PAU expert from College of Community Science, talked about the role of women in society and importance of self-reliance. Emphasising on the need to empower rural women, they said after acquiring training in agriculture and allied occupations from the PAU, rural women can contribute economically by opting for agri business.

Dr Rupinder Kaur and Dr Kanwaljit Kaur shared the details of the training courses conducted by the Skill Development Centre.

Dr Parminder Singh, assistant plant pathologist, provided tips for the management of Karnal bunt in wheat and advised the farmers to use Karnal bunt disease free seed for wheat sowing. Dr Amit Chaudhary, assistant entomologist, spoke on honey bee feed during winters.

Dr Paramjit Kaur, assistant entomologist, and Ravinder Bhalooria, Mobiliser, Skill Development Centre, explained the farm operations to be carried out in November.

Dr Anil Sharma, assistant director, Communication Centre, advised farmers to give up the malpractise of stubble burning and adopt straw management technologies. He urged them to stay connected with the PAU and read its publications regularly for upgradation of knowledge. He explained the membership procedure for the subscription of university publications.
