Procurement season to be longer this time

Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has said his time, the wheat procurement season would be longer than usual and special passes would be issued to farmers so that they do not have to spend more time in mandis. ‘Lion spotted in village’

Ludhiana: Announcement made from the gurdwara near Madhpur (Birmi) village that a lion had been spotted during the wee hours, caused panic in the area. Bhagwant Singh, member of Panchayat, said a driver supplying milk to the area spotted a lion and he informed about it to the police personnel at a naka. "The police contacted me and we got an announcement made through the local gurdwara for the safety of public. The forest officials visited the place and they had combed the area for two hours. However, they couldn't find any lion," he said. tns

Money withdrawn fraudulently

Ludhiana: Kehar Singh, a resident of Urban Estate, Dugri Phase I, has lodge a complaint with the police that one of his trainees at an "akahra" at Manakwal village stole his HDFC Bank ATM card and fraudulently withdrew Rs 72,000 from his salary account. The complaint has named Dharminder Singh, a resident of Kohrer village in Bharatpur (Rajastahan), while adding that at an earlier occasion also, the suspect had stolen Rs 3 lakh. The Sadar police have registered a case under section 379 of the IPC and launched investigation. OC

Liquor recovered from car

Ludhiana: The Sarabha Nagar police have arrested Jagjit Singh of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar with 10 cases (120 bottles) of smuggled liquor. The suspect's car (PB-11BP-5454) was signalled to stop at a naka near Lodhi Club on Ferozepur Road. Search of the vehicle yielded three cases of whisky and seven cases of countrymade liquor. A case under section188 of the IPC and 61/1/14 of the Excise Act has been registered against him. OC
