Police to act tough on Covid-19 violations

Ludhiana, July 5

As the state government has given relaxations with regard to opening of business establishments, shops, other trades and even in movement of people, there has been a rise in the violations of Covid-19 norms. The Ludhiana police, after doing a random survey, have found that people are not following social distancing, not wearing masks, hence paying least heed to the guidelines issued by the state government to check the spread of Covid-19.

The police have now decided to step up action against the violators.

“We in the administration are not satisfied with the enforcement of Covid guidelines among people. At many places, people are not following social distancing, nor are they using masks properly. Many people wear masks but leave their noses uncovered, which defeats the purpose of putting a mask. Crowding at many places is a cause of concern for us. People continue to roam around in the city without any purpose.

“All this put unnecessary pressure on us. The cases of Covid are also increasing day by day in Ludhiana. Henceforth, we will be very strict in enforcing the Covid guidelines in Ludhiana. We will register FIRs, issue challans, impose fines and even impound vehicles to instil fear of law in your minds. So violate the guidelines at your own risk,” is the categorical message of the Ludhiana police for the residents put on their official Facebook page and on the Twitter handle.

“Well, I suggest you to install awareness signage regarding the Covid-19 guidelines at all public places. Most people are not aware of these guidelines,” comments one of the residents.

Another resident writes: “Your own guidelines are just not in order. You allow tobacco selling but fine residents for spitting. Will the person go home and spit there? Kindly enforce the guidelines properly. Otherwise, community spread is not far.”

“If you visit Chaura Bazaar, Gur Mandi and Books Market side, you will find nobody can maintain social distance there even if he wants to. Heavy rush and traffic jams are witnessed almost all day. Better you shorten the timings of shops or, if possible, implement the even-odd system,” comments another resident.
