Ludhiana, April 12

A man alleging police inaction in an abetment to suicide case today lodged a complaint against an ACP of the Ludhiana police with the Commissioner of Police (CP).

The complainant, Taranpreet Singh, of the Baba Than Singh chowk area said on October 11, 2021, his brother Karaljit Singh had committed suicide due to the alleged harassment by Rubal. His brother had owed money to the accused but due to his poor financial condition, he could not return the money. As a result, the accused tortured his brother and the latter ended his life.

The police had registered an abetment to suicide case against Rubal.

Taranpreet alleged that Rubal was not arrested by the police as the probe was being done by the ACP.

“Since we were not satisfied with the probe, we requested senior officials to shift the probe to some other official but the ACP did not shift the investigation despite getting directions. In February, I even lodged a complaint with the CP, Ludhiana, to give directions to the ACP to transfer the probe file to some other officer but the ACP did not pay any heed,” the complainant alleged.

On April 7, the ACP called him to his office for forcibly recording his statement.

The complainant said if his demand was not met, he would hold a protest on the Jagraon bridge on Saturday.
