The announcement by the state government to promote students on the basis of their previous year’s score has come as a big relief to students and their parents. Students have been in a state of panic due to the vagueness in the day to day decisions regarding syllabus, studies and the process of evaluation.

Sunita (name changed) said: “My daughter is a university topper. She is now in the final year of her post-graduation course. Her zeal to study has dampened due to the lockdown. As the lockdown period was extended, her condition deteriorated. This announcement has thankfully brought a smile on her face.”

“We welcome this decision. Earlier, when we heard that exams were to be conducted for exit classes, we were upset. We know that examinations matter, but not at the cost of life. Now, I am happy for my child as the thought of taking her to the examination centre and her sitting with other students gave me goose bumps. I had even thought of making her drop her year rather than put my only child to risk,” shared a concerned parent of Harpeet, a BA student.

“Amid the Covid-19 crisis, the question of taking exams doesn’t arise. This is a good decision, otherwise students would have either skipped the exam or performed badly,” opined Deepanshia, a student.

“Online studies are not of much use for rural children, residing in remote villages, as no such facility was available there. Students were just aware of the syllabus covered till March, when regular classes were on, but after that they lost touch with the studies and were in no case prepared to take any sort of exam,” shared Gurmeet, a student doing postgraduation at a local college in Doraha.
