Pandemic claims five more lives

Covid-19 today claimed five more lives in the district while 130 persons contracted the virus.

Those who died of virus are a 72-year-old man from Jamalpur, an 86-year-old man from Panjeta, a 45-year-old man from Kot Mangal Singh, an 81-year-old man from Udham Singh Nagar and a 59-year-old man from Mundian Kalan.

The Health Department has confirmed 165 cases, of which 130 cases are from Ludhiana district and 35 from other districts or states.

Nineteen patients surfaced during contact tracing, 31 reported at OPDs and 52 patients having influenza-like illness visited flu corners. The patients include five healthcare workers and a pregnant woman.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said samples of 2,32,768 suspected patients have been collected to date and of them, the Health Department confirmed 16,425 positive cases. He said 14,351 (87.37%) patients have recovered.

Nine patients, including five from Ludhiana district and one each from Patiala, Jalandhar, Moga and Jammu & Kashmir, died of Covid. A total of 668 patients have lost their lives to the virus in the district. As many as 29 patients were on ventilator today.

Ludhiana city subdivision badly hit

Of 16,425 confirmed cases in the district, 14,727 confirmed cases and 591 deaths were reported from Ludhiana city sub-division. In the other subdivisions, 541 cases with 17 deaths were reported in Jagraon, 474 cases with 27 deaths in Khanna, 247 cases with 13 deaths in Payal, 224 cases with seven deaths in Raikot and 212 cases with 13 deaths in Samrala.
