Ludhiana, June 19

Despite the fact that

coronavirus cases are rising, over 1 lakh people are yet to get their second dose of the Covid vaccine in the district.

Civil Surgeon Dr SP Singh said: “It is sad to see that eligible persons are not coming forward for vaccination. Due to a large influx of migratory population in the city, several people go back to their native places or change their phone numbers. Hence, it becomes difficult for us to trace them”.

“Virus is still here and we request the eligible persons to get their second and booster dose as soon as possible,” he said.

Keeping in view the figures, the administration has decided to organise special vaccination camps across the district to ensure 100 per cent inoculation of people to keep Covid at bay.

Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik called upon city residents to join hands with the administration in this mammoth drive.

She said special camps would be held across the district to ensure that the entire eligible population received both doses of the Covid vaccine. As present, only 82 per cent eligible beneficiaries had received the second dose.

She appealed to people, especially parents, to bring their children aged between 12 and 17 to these camps so that no one was left without the jab. Special camps were also being held at industrial houses to ensure 100 per cent inoculation of the workforce here.

The DC said: “The situation is completely under control, but all of us need to stay alert, especially amid rising Covid-19 cases”.
