One succumbs, 55 test positive in Ludhiana

Cases cross 20,000 in 7 months in district

The total Covid-19 positive cases from Ludhiana district today crossed the 20,000-mark. With 55 more persons testing positive today, the confirmed cases has reached 20,022 while one person has lost her life.

The first case in Ludhiana was reported on March 24 from Gurdev Nagar and today, after seven months, the total count has crossed 20,000. Maximum cases were reported after lifting of the lockdown restrictions in June. The first case was reported on March 24 and till June 30, the number of cases reported were 840. Once the unlock started, the cases started seeing a surge and by the end of July, these reached 3,246. In July, 2,406 cases were reported.

By August 31, the total number of cases from the district rose to 10,222. In August, the total number of cases reported were 6,976 and the district saw an approximate increase of 190 per cent in a single month.

August was the worst hit and saw the highest number of cases at 462 on August 21 and 18 deaths in a single say were reported on August 31, the highest so far. By September end, the cases rose to 17,958 and today, on October 25, the confirmed cases crossed the 20,000-mark and reached 20,022.

Today, one person lost her life to the virus and 14 patients were on ventilator support.

The person who lost her life was a 55-year-old woman from Maachiwara, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital. She was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

Of the total confirmed cases, 15,918 belong to Ludhiana city while 614 to Jagraon, 541 to Khanna, 321 to Raikot, 294 from Payal and 270 were from Samrala.

DC Varinder Kumar Sharma said at present, there were 246 active patients in the district.

He said 55 new patients from Ludhiana district had tested positive in the past 24 hours. Till date, a total of 3,75,197 samples had been collected, of which reports of 3,72,807 samples had been received, of which 3,50,094 samples were found negative while reports of 2,390 samples were pending.
