Ludhiana, January 21

The police have registered cases against two persons on the charge of illegal mining. The police impounded their vehicles laden with illegally mined sand. While one of the suspects was nabbed, the other escaped.

The Meharban police nabbed Hardeep Singh of Sheikhewal village for illegally mining sand. The investigating officer, head constable Jora Singh, said he, along with a police party, was present at Mattehwara for routine patrolling. He got a tip-off that the suspect illegally mined sand from the Sutlej.

He was on the way to sell the illegally mined sand when he was stopped at naka in Garhi Fazal village. He failed to produce any mining slip. He was arrested and his tractor-trailer impounded.

Meanwhile, the Ladhowal police booked an unknown person on the charge of illegal mining. The investigating officer, ASI Harmeet Singh, said during routine patrolling on GT Road, Ladhowal, he got to know that a person had illegally mined sand form the Sutlej and loaded it on his truck. “A police party set up a naka at the Ladhowal toll barrier where the truck was signalled to stop. The driver abandoned the truck on the road and fled the spot,” said the ASI.
